Deck and Starting the Railing

Things don't get done quickly when I'm out there by myself, but I did get a little bit done to show today...

I need to get 2 more 20 foot deck boards before I can finish the entire deck, but I did get one board on the last row to show what it will look like...

And, I started putting together one of the rail baluster kits, but haven't finished it yet...  The bottom is attached to the balusters, but not the top...

The first picture really doesn't show where the last deck board is on, but the second one does -- and obviously also shows the railing I've started to put together...

Deck, Stairs, and Exterior Trim / Gutters

We have still made progress, but not as fast as the framing...  The deck is not quite finished, but we're close.  The trim on the outside is also being worked on as well as the gutters...  We did get the stairs finished.  They are not really in the living area, and are a bit rough, but they will do the job...

The siding on the front is waiting on the front door, but the rest is pretty much done.

It's back home for Thanksgiving with the family, so it will be early next week before we get any more done...

Sunday Odds and Ends...

Well, I spent a couple of hours working around the house today -- put on a few door knobs, cut holes in the deck for the posts up by the house, put in a bunch of decking screws (through the rim into the joists) though the real support is through the joist hangers.

Took a couple of pictures to show the contrast in the colors of the porch and siding, and I was pretty pleased with the results...  Also, took some pictures of the house and sunset...

Progress on Siding, Decking, and Front Porch...

Well, some progress was made today on three different things -- siding, the decking (about 4 of the 22 rows of boards -- 60 feet), and the front porch.  It is really starting to look like a house now...

Progress on Siding and Deck

One end and most of one side of the siding are done, and we got the rim joists on the deck up.  Both are taking a little longer than expected, but we are making good progress...

Side -- around noon...

  Back end of the house...

Same side as earlier -- near the end of the day...

Started Deck and Siding -- Just Barely Started!

We were able to get the deck posts put up today, and one side of the header boards that run along under the trusses.

They also started the siding in the back of the house, but that was pretty late in the day when they got to that...

They had to finish the door trim (brick moulding, etc) of the overhead doors so they could put the J-channel around them for the siding to fit into...

It is really looking good.  They expect to get a lot done between now and Monday!

Windows and Doors...

We were able to get all the windows in and 3 of the doors so far.  We have the front doors on order, but it will be at least a week before they come in.

Winter Wonderland!

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas -- and I think this dream will come true!

We just got back to Ohio this evening, and after 19+ years in Texas and 3 years in Tennessee, the snow was a very beautiful sight!

We wish we could be warm and cozy in our finished new home tonight, but that will come later...  Anyway, the snow is very pretty, and we're suddenly feeling like it's time for Christmas!

The house and all the building materials are safe and sound, and we will be getting back to work on getting it sealed up this week!

Sites in Rome, New York

We have been able to go to a few places while visiting here in New York, so the kids have had some field trips...

We went to Fort Stanwix and where Griffiss Air Force Base was previously located.  Then, we went over to the Oriskany Battle Field.  Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera when we went to Oriskany, so no pictures...

Vacation -- Monday

We're having fun here in upstate New York...

Ryan is has put on a few inches...

The kids were climbing the tree in Grandma and Grandpa's back yard...

Insulation

They were able to get 90% of the insulation done before we left for vacation...  This is a 1" thick insulation called P-2000, and it is R-27 equivalent.  We'll be putting 1.5" on the ceiling which will be R-41...

You can also see the soffet under the eaves...  The trim is white.

And, on the way out of town, we took a couple of pictures of the Amish schoolhouse...
